Sail Indonesia Trawangan 2012
Sail Indonesia Trawangan 2012
Sail Indonesia is an annual Sailing Rally and 2012 will be the twelfth year of this event. The rally begins every year in Darwin in the middle of July. The departure from Darwin is the beginning of a three month program of linked events across Indonesia.
These events are supported by the Indonesian Central Government and the Local Government Centers at the destinations you will visit as you cross the country. Sail Indonesia is an event and this English language update is to promote, co-ordinate and organize our Yacht Rally.
Our rally is now in progress with the 2012 fleet of yachts now spread out all over Indonesia with some yachts in Morotai, Lombok, Bali and some are now in Singapore. Sail Indonesia 2012 will also include Sail Komodo.
The updated program of events is detailed at 2012 Schedule and you can now join us on Facebook, or take a look at the route on Google Maps.
Hundreds of yachts have joined our rally across Indonesia during the past eleven years, there are Stories where you will find links to many yacht web sites, blogs, guides, diaries and accounts written by some of these, our participants from previous years.
Sail Indonesia 2012 left from Darwin on July 28 and is similar to the last years with some exciting new destinations across Indonesia. The 2012 route map is now shown below and the main maritime event for this year is Sail Morotai.
Sail Indonesia 2012 will depart from Darwin on Saturday July 28 at 11 am andduring the following three months all participants are invited to participate in a linked series of Events and Cultural Festivals at the different stopovers across Indonesia on the islands of Timor, Banda, Buru,, Ternate, Morotai, Lembata, Wakatobi, Flores, Sulawesi, Sengiggi, the Gili islands, Bali, Java, Borneo, Belitung and finally on to Batam or Bintan just south of Singapore.
As in past years the Local Administration at each of these Indonesian islands has planned a number of events at the time of visits which often includes a ceremonial welcome and dinner as well as cultural and arts displays and also dance performances. You will be able to see some of the more remote, interesting and less developed parts of Indonesia as you cross the country often away from the well worn tourist areas.
At each of these stopovers you will be able to experience different peoples and their cultures, different lifestyles, different arts, different crafts, wonderful foods and of course different languages. You are welcome to participate in all events and stopovers after your first port of entry in Kupang or Saumlaki, as the Indonesia Organizing Committee at each port will provide you with hospitality, reception and festivities. You do not have to participate in all the events and the stopovers on the rally as there will simply not be enough time, you can just join the events that suit your schedule.
