Boat disruption over
This weeks unusual storms and huge 5 metre swells in the Lombok straight, or where the wallace line is, stopped all boats running from all ports this Wednesday.
On Thursday still all ports were closed but the Ocean Star fast boat was allowed to do a trip from Padang Bai in north east Bali to Gili Trawangan and return directly with a much earlier schedule than normal.
Friday saw a few of the bigger boats running and by Saturday and Sunday despite still fairly big swells all ports and services were back to normal.
This caused massive disruption for people travelling to Lombok, Lembongan and the Gilis.
Fortunately it was not in the middle of peak season but stil in the middle of high season, and this usually happens once every 2 years, the last time was Early January 2010, 2 days after New Year.
This is a warning that travellers in Indonesia must take out proper intensive Travel insurance that covers you for travel disruption, (I was stuck for 10 days becaus of the Iceland volcano with very little help from the airline KLM and a lot of expense to me), personal accident damage as the roads in Bali areshockingly bad as are the drivers. Don’t rely on credit card insurance as they will wriggle ou of any claim.
Well lets get back to normal, enjoy our beautiful islands, soak up the sun, go exploring, there is so much to do and so little time.
